About Annie Brook

About Annie Brook | Annie's Musings

Annie Brook, Ph.D., LPC, is a skilled facilitator and therapist whose knowledge of the body, of meditative practices, energy, ritual and the psychology of personal story makes her work unique in its depth. Her passion is living fully embodied and sharing tools of communications and the expression of integrated conscious movement.

In 1978, Annie began her studies in body-mind awareness in Berkeley, CA, where she earned her BA in somatic psychology. She merged studies in somatic psychology, meditation, and movement. These included bioenergetic therapy, neo-Reichian work, transactional analysis, contact improvisation, improvisational theater, and Sufi, Buddhist, and Native American philosophies and meditative practices. This work formed the foundation of her interest in body-mind spirit work. Her Masters in Applied Behavioral Science focused on family system dynamics, organizational development, and communications.

Practical application of these skills led to work with infants and children in the trauma sections at Oakland and Seattle Children's Hospitals, and in the public schools. In addition, Annie has owned a movement studio in Taos, NM, and has written numerous books and articles on body-mind awareness.

In 1997 Annie became a certified BodyMind Centering® teacher. In addition, she is a certified Body Mind Psychotherapist, a certified Tantra teacher, a performance artist, and a licensed professional counselor. Annie maintains an ongoing private psychotherapy practice and teaches workshops throughout the country and the world. Her courses include: Contact Improvisation, BodyMind Centering and Movement Education, Playback Theater, Prenatal and Birth, and Healthy Sexuality. These courses support a full-bodied integration of spirit, soul, and heart.

Annie lives in Boulder, CO, and is the former Director of the Body Psychology track at Naropa University for the Somatic Psychology Masters program. Annie co-own Colorado Therapies, a center for attachment and family treatment that offers a team approach (see www.coloradotherapies.com). In addition, she teaches Anatomy, Kinesiology, and BodyMind Centering® for Core College and the Interarts program. She is available for classes and consultation, as well as individual sessions.
